MN Bloggers Unite to Help Feed My Starving Children and Haiti

Sometimes taking a small risk has huge unforeseen rewards.  Back in December (pre-blog A.D.), I noticed a blurb on the Star Tribune site.   Minnesota bloggers were scheduling a volunteer event at Feed My Starving Children in Eagan.  The idea was to volunteer for some good while talking to fellow bloggers and sharing ideas.  I thought it sounded like a great idea, but I didn’t have a blog.  I wanted to blog, what would I talk about?  The seed was planted…

Fast forward to Christmas Eve Day, browsing at the Barnes and Noble with my husband – after all I’m sure I needed more books.  The lightning bolt struck – I can blog about what I read all day – what fun is that!?!  Finally, I had a subject!  One blessing to the crappy Xmas weather of 2009, I was stuck in the house anyway and able to quickly set up my WordPress blog (if I can do it, anyone can) and my Twitter account (ditto).  Now I could sign up for the volunteer event and meet some expert bloggers!

Then the earthquake happened in Haiti.  I still get a pit in my stomach when I think of people buried in the rubble.  Feed My Starving Children, a non-profit organization started by a Minnesotan, was on the news constantly.  They need volunteers NOW.  Check out their site and if you are able to do so, please contribute, whether in time or money:  http://www.fmsc.org/haitiearthquakeresponse

So our event was fabulous.  We met at Houlihan’s to mingle and nosh before we headed to FMSC.  Once there, everyone pitched in (with hairnets (no, Spellcheck God, not “hornets”) firmly in place) to help FMSC pack boxes that would be sent to Haiti.  The place was jammed with a few groups (including one young guy who was there celebrating his birthday with his family).  The MN Bloggers were the loudest.  Also, incredibly efficient: able to dance and pack food at the same time!

I met some great people, learned a LOT, had fun, and my heart is happy.  These blogging people and Feed My Starving Children ROCK!

Here are links to the folks that participated.  Please check out their blogs (and/or Twitter accounts).  Yes, they all have cool, professionally designed sites – but it’s only been 3-1/2 weeks – so hang in there with me.
